The first generation of hypnosis is what we general recognize as being the traditional, authoritarian approach. It is characterized by direct suggestion. It has no respect for the conscious mind, and it attempts to “by-pass the critical faculty of the conscious mind
to esrablish acceptible thinking”.
The second generation of hypnosis was the task of Erickson. Milton had a great respect for the unconscious mind, but was still imited with the mistrust of consious processes which needed to be “depotentiated”
The third generation of hypnosis is generative trance, in which the creative unconscious mind works collaboratively with the conscious mind to produce results.
